2852 Corps Members Disengaged From NYSC In Delta State

… As State Coordinator, Olutayo Samuel Relives Glamours Of Passing Out
By Patrick Ochei
The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC on Thursday disengaged 2852 corps members serving in Delta State under the 2019 Batch C Stream 1 category.

The passing out activities were done under strict compliance to the Covid-19 protocols, as the corps members maintained physical distancing with their face masks on while they filed up to sign for their discharge certificates.

Reminiscing on the highly entertaining ceremonies of passing out, the State Coordinator, Mrs. Olutayo Samuel who supervised every bit of the passing out function, affirmed that Covid-19 had taken away the shine of Passing Out Parade.

According to her, “We ensured the observance of Covid-19 protocols as the new normal. Passing Out usually was glamorous with pomp and pageantry, but times have changed as our health is more important than any fun.

“I recall before now, usually there were winding up ceremonies with appraisals, there were Job Awareness and Creation (JAAC), then those who participated in the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) would showcase their products for their colleagues to see and buy. They usually were interesting activities to behold.

“Anyways, we believe we will get over the Covid-19 pandemic soon, so that life will return to normal and the glamour of passing out reignited”, Samuel explained.

Meanwhile, the State Coordinator congratulated those corps members who successfully completed their service year and for the successes recorded during the course of their service year in their various host communities.

She said of the 2852 that disengaged, 1316 were males while 1536 were females.

She added that while some of the corps members distinguished themselves and were rewarded, some others contravened the NYSC Bye-Laws and were punished.

It is worthy of note that five corps members were rewarded with the State Coordinator’s Certificates of Commendation, four were remobilized to repeat their service year for absconding from service while 20 others had their service year extended ranging from two weeks to three months.

Moreover, a minute silence was observed for eight corps members who paid the ultimate price of death during the service year.

Some of the officials of NYSC who came from the NYSC South-South Area office moved round with the State Coordinator and her team on inspection, and they were satisfied with the perfect arrangement put in place for passing out.
