Kano: Man Nabbed For Soliciting Baby’s Eye For Ritual
A man suspected to be a native doctor has been nabbed soliciting for new born baby’s eye to be used for ritual in Hotoro area of Nasarawa Local Government of Kano State.
Reports said the man, identified as Yahaya Shehu, was arrested when he promised one Kabiru Sani N8 million and a car if he could get any of his relatives’ new born babies left eye to be used in ritual.
It was gathered that Sani met his elder sister, Samira, and asked her to sacrifice her baby, promising her that they will be rich but the sister declined and cautioned.
The Kano State Police Command, while confirming the incident, said the suspect had been arrested and would soon be prosecuted.
The spokesman of the command, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said they arrested the suspect after Sani, who earlier went to the native doctor for medication, reported the matter to them.
Kiyawa said, “After Sani went to the native doctor for medication, he then prescribed something for him and ordered that he mixed it with his urine and bathe with it for three days.
“Upon his return after the three days, the doctor again gave him some water to use, and later asked him to bring a new born baby from his relatives whose left eye would be used for ritual.
“This was what prompted him to meet his elder sister pleading with her to sacrifice her son for the ritual which he said was been prepared allegedly for a soldier.
“It was at that point that the sister became worried and took Sani to the police station where they reported the native doctor,” Kiyawa said.
The PPRO said the police, upon receiving the complaint arrested the native doctor in Hotoro.
He said they were also able to recover a coffin, calabash with some ritual inscriptions on it and other ritual materials during his arrest.
Kiyawa said the state Commissioner of Police, Habu Sani, has ordered the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
