Lekki Shooting: Nigerians Set To Drag Buhari To ICC

Following the shooting of unarmed protesters by military officials at the Lekki toll gate, aggrieved Nigerians have decided to drag President Muhammadu Buhari to the International Criminal Court (ICC) to answer for cases of crime against inhumanity.

Presently, a total of 78 protesters have been reported dead, but the governor of the state,Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu debunked this, saying no death was recorded.

One Kayode Ogunfeibo pushing for a petition to be sent to ICC, said:
“This is the latest in a long series of human rights abuses in Nigeria and as the Head of State of Nigeria President Mohammadu Buhari should be held directly responsible for this heinous crime against humanity. Under no circumstances should civilians be shot by soldiers in a civilised world and the perpetrators including the Army Chief of Staff General Buratai, should be brought to justice.”

At the time of filing this report, a total of 88,500 Nigerians have signed the said petition to notify the ICC on the need to place the president on trial.

Those in charge of the petition hope to get a total of 100,000 signatures to scale through.

However, other online petitions have been brought up by citizens of Nigeria.

A petition asking the United Kingdom to sanction members of President Muhammadu Buhari-led government and police force for human rights abuses over the #EndSARS movement is one of such already ganering support.
