NUJ TO Partner With DELSU, Ikeogwu Tells VC
By Johnson Ebogide
Chairman of the Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Michael Ikeogwu, has reiterated the need to partner with the Delta State University (DELSU) towards making its academic breakthroughs known to the public.
Comrade Ikeogwu dropped the hint when he led members of his exco and some critical stakeholders of the union in the state in a courtesy visit to the institution in Abraka.
Addressing the Vice Chancellor (VC), Professor Andy Egwunyenga, and some principal staff of the institution during the visit, Comrade Ikeogwu maintained that the findings of researches were principally geared towards proffering solutions for societal problems, adding that little could be achieved in that drive if such findings were not made available at the right time for public consumption.

The union leader said that NUJ in the state would partner with the institution to ensure a robust flow of vital information from the citadel of learning in a symbiotic relationship to the public, adding that the days of keeping away useful findings from researches in closets were gone.
He congratulated Prof. Egwunyenga on his well deserved appointment as the VC of DELSU, saying that the institution would soon witness tremendous academic and infrastructural transformation, considering the wealth of experience, academic and administrative competence of the VC.
Responding, Prof. Egwunyenga thanked the chairman for finding time to pay him a courtesy visit immediately after his reelection as the NUJ Chairman in the state, saying that the institution under his watch was highly desirous of partnering with the union in the state, just as he disclosed that the Public Relations (PR) Department in the institution had been upgraded with a director in charge to ensure steady flow of information from the institution to its various publics.
The VC noted that the role of journalists in information gathering and dissemination in the society was enormous, adding that arrangements would be put on ground to ensure that the PR department in the institution relates cordially with the union in the state and beyond towards the actualisation of set goals.
