The Executive Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Communications, Barrister Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe has congratulated the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori over his rising leadership profile as one of the nation’s outstanding lawmakers and strategic key player in national politics

The EAC in his goodwill message on Friday and made available to newsmen in Asaba, rejoiced with Mr Speaker for emerging as the new Deputy National Chairman of the Association of Speakers in Nigeria, in a keenly contested election held in Abuja, wherein he was elected unopposed, saying that Chief Oborevwori has been consistent in his enviable roles as head of the state legislature and partner in progress with other speakers in the country.

Oghenesivbe urged Speaker Oborevwori to use his new office to attract socioeconomic development by influencing the federal government to rehabilitate deplorable federal roads in Delta State to facilitate transportation of goods and services; and to add his voice to the call on Buhari administration to stop any or all legislations aimed at stifling freedom of the press and social media information super highway under the guise of taming fake news.

“I congratulate Mr Speaker for emerging as the new Deputy National Chairman of Association of Speakers in Nigeria, and to use his new office to prevail on the federal government to rehabilitate all deplorable Trunk A federal roads in Delta State.

“I urge Speaker Oborevwori to also add his voice as the Deputy National Chairman of the Association of Speakers to the agitation against draconian legislation being sponsored by the APC national government to frustrate press freedom as well as strangulate the vibrant social media information super highway that has been exposing bad leadership and promoting good governance at all levels in Nigeria and around the world.

“It is obvious that the social media is super dynamic, extremely smart and fast in information dissemination, much faster than the conventional media such that global milieu has come to terms with the all important roles of the social media as one of the best things that happened to humanity in the 21st century.

“It is shameful that the Buhari administration is taking the lead on the clampdown on social media due largely to it’s determination to control, manipulate and misinform Nigerians about the epileptic performance of the federal government. Thus, the social media has been tagged as the worst enemy of the APC national government.

“The intervention of the association of Speakers in Nigeria will go a long way to stop the federal government from her strong determination to further strangulate press freedom and total clampdown on social media information super highway. I trust that Mr Speaker will add his voice to this noble project of total press freedom in constitutional democracy.

“It is my fervent prayers that God should consistently enlarge the coast of Mr Speaker and take him to the very pinnacle of his political career and service to humanity,” Oghenesivbe said.
