JUST IN: 43-Year-Old Asefon Emerges NANS President

has emerged the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

Asefon was declared winner of the ongoing national presidential election of NANS in Abuja.

Eyewitness at the convention who spoke this morning hinted that Mr ASEFON from Ekiti State polled 155 votes to defeat Ladoja from Oyo State who polled 100 votes.

It was gathered that Comrade Momodu polled 11 votes, Champion 2 votes and Alopay from Osun state polled just 7votes while invalid votes is 7.

Confirming this development, one of ASEFON staunch Supporter at the Convention, Comrade Freedom Siasia, said his candidate won the NANS presidential election and has been declared winner with 155 votes.

He said ASEFON is a Comrade who doesn’t stay asleep to win the president office of NANS.

“ASEFON goes to every side of the country to liberate his campaign agenda with students and students leaders as at time of press, he is on the roadmap again, has gone to all the 36 States, FCT Abuja.”

He further said that VP election and others are ongoing after the announcement of ASEFON as winner of presidential election.

The NANS Convention had on Thursday witnessed heavy gunshots as some people were reportedly injured at the Old Parade ground, Area 10, Garki, Abuja.

The new president of the national body was NANS Coordinator Zone D in 2013 while a student of Ekiti State University, EKSU.

The outgoing president, who was recently suspended, Danielson Bamidele Akpan, held on to the office for over two years refusing to hand over power.

Trouble was said to have started on Thursday as a coordinator of the NANS from one of the zones with faction, brought in armed men as accreditation was on.

Upon arrival, it was also gathered that the armed suspected cultists engaged the men of the Department of State Security (DSS) on ground in gun battle.

Some of the DSS officials were said to have taken to their heels and retreated as they were almost outnumbered by the armed cultists.

Over 20 persons were said to have been injured, with one in danger zone taken to the nearest hospital. Normalcy later retired past 11 midnight as the student leaders returned to the venue to continue the election.

It was gathered that security was reinforced as soldiers from Abuja had to be sent to provide security in addition to the DSS officials on ground.

An official of the NANS Convention Planning Committee (CPC), Adamu Kabir, in a tweet monitored by Mouthpiece NGR on Thursday night, described the gun battle as “normal” in NANS.

“This sporadic shooting is an annual ritual that must be observed in order to test the ruggedity of candidates contesting for NANS presidency,” Kabir, better knowns as Karoll, said.

Another student leader on the convention ground, who spoke to Mouthpiece NGR on the condition of anonymity, attributed the shootings to interest from various groups.

He accused the ruling All Progressives Congress and the presidency of sponsoring a particular presidential candidate and providing him security cover to intimidate others.

The student leader also accused a second term governor of the ruling party from the South West region, of trying to hijack the processes with huge sum of money over his interest on a presidential candidate (names withheld).

Negative reactions have however trailed his emergence of Asefon.
