JUST IN: Nigeria’s First Professor Of Computer Science, Olu Longe Dies At 88
The First Nigerian Professor of Computer Science, Professor Olu Longe is dead.
He died at age 88 after a brief illness.
Professor Olumide Babatope Longe died on Monday evening in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
He is a citizen of Ekiti State, precisely Ikere Ekiti, headquarter of Ikere local government area.
Professor Longe was born on March 20, 1932 at his country home, Ikere Ekiti.
He attended St. Luke’s primary school (now Holy Trinity Primary school) in Ikere Ekiti between 1938 to 1946.

The renowned Professor of Computer Science attended Christ’s School, Ado-Ekiti for his Secondary school education between 1947 to 1951.
He later proceeded to the University of Ibadan, Oyo State for his first degree between 1954 to 1959 and then to the University of Sydney, Australia between 1963 to 1967 and Ohio State University, Columbus Ohio, USA between 1971 to 1974 for his Master and Doctorate degrees respectively.
He was Principal at Lisabi College, Abeokuta, Ogun State, 1960; snr. Science Master, Ugelu Grammar School, Ibadan, 1961-63; Associate dir. UAC Computer Centre, Niger House, Lagos, 1967-68; dir. Computing Centre, University of Ibadan, 1968-78;
He was also Prof. Computer Science, King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, 1986-1991; Computer Science, University of Ibadan, 1978-98; mm: Science Association of Nigeria, 1968, Association for Computing Machinery, USA 1973; International Federation for Information Processing, 1980; f: Computer Association of Nigeria, 1981; Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria, 1995; v-presd.
