Obaseki Pays April Salaries, Pensions
Public and civil servants in Edo State are in a jubilant mood as they received their April salaries on Monday, April 26, with many of them expressing admiration for Governor Godwin Obaseki prudent financial management.
A cross-section of the workers, who spoke with journalists, said they are particularly elated because they are getting paid at a time that their colleagues in other states are being owed or paid half salaries.
A pensioner, who identified himself as Mr. Malachy, noted that he has received his pension for April, commending the governor for his commitment to the welfare of workers.
The state government has kept to a tradition of paying government workers on or before the 26th of every month despite the financial crunch that has beset the country.
A staff at the Ministry of Finance, who pleaded anonymity, said that the state government has been faithful with its obligations to workers and pensioners because of Governor Obaseki’s prudent financial management.
He said, “We have a governor who has done a lot to clean up the finances of the state. Salaries were paid today because the governor has a good grasp of public finance and is using his expertise to better the life of the state.”
