Omenogor Identifies Peace As Panacea For All-Round Development

The Founder of Odogwu Adi-Ebuo Peace Foundation, Sir Dele Omenogor has said without peace, there cannot be development in the entire world.

He made the remarks during the annual public lecture and inauguration of new branches of the foundation at Amai, Ukuani Local Government Area of Delta State.

Sir Omenogor said that the most developed and developing countries across the globe were all enjoying peaceful atmosphere, devoid of conflicts and wars.

He said that the purpose of coming up with the foundation was to encourage peace in the world, adding that peace remained the wheel on which development manifest, calling on Nigerians to maintain peace always and not to encourage war.

Dr Gabriel Abanum of Eku Baptist Government Hospital, who delivered the lecture on the program, said that good development does not thrive in the absence of peace.

He noted that more than two billion people in the world suffer the consequence of systematic violence in their countries, describing the situation as unfortunate.

Abanum observed that people were living in troubled times where every one was deeply conscious of human dignity and longed for peace, adding that human dignity was trampled upon all over the world, making the attainment of peace a mirage.

Peace building, according to him, was an activity that aims at resolving injustice in non violent ways and to transform the cultural and structural conditions that generated deadly and destructive conflicts into more useful and productive channels for development.

The renowned medical practitioner said that sustainable peace would be achieved if government at all levels would come up with genuinely refined democratic framework.

According to him, such must be built on the rule of law, social justice, sports development and encouragement of talented youths as exemplified by the founder of Odogwu Adi- Ebuo Foundation.

He lauded Sir Omenogor for establishing the foundation, establishing football club and as the patron of Ndokwa Musicians Association of Nigeria, describing him as peace loving.

The Vice Chairman, Ukwuani Local Government Council, Hon. Veronica Egbune; Captain Isaac Ogonegbu, a retired army officer; and Mr Tony Eleh, who chaired the program, all agreed peace was the most essential thing any community, country or organization should seek for, saying without it, development would be elusive.

They called on Nigerians to adhere to peaceful resolutions of crisis in the nation, because according to them, it was only with togetherness that Nigeria would rise up as the greatest assembly of Blackman.

The newly inaugurated executive members of Odogwu Adi – Ebuo Peace Foundation included, Chief David Menewe, patron; Chief Sunday Efude, President; Mr Joseph Enebeli, Vice President; and Mrs Bridget Menewe, Lady President.

Others were Mrs Blessing Baro, Vice Lady President; Mrs Odia Patricia, General Secretary; Mr Harrison Esume, Assistant Treasurer; Robinson Ojumah, Financial Secretary; Mr Peter Esume, Assistant Financial Secretary; Mr Chuks Onyemaechi, Public Relations Officer; Mr Basil Otulugbu, Committee Chairman; and Eleadi Emeke, Provost.
