CONPA Celebrates 6th Anniversary, Seeks More Partnership With DTSG

A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) based in Delta State, Coalition of Ndokwa Peace Ambassadors (CONPA), has said that the Okowa-led administration could achieve more in the areas of peace and security if the Delta State Government gives them more listening ears.

The President General of the group, Comrade Ambassador Alex Ugboh, said this on Monday in Asaba while responding to questions from journalists during the 6th anniversary celebration of CONPA.

According to him, CONPA has not yet enjoyed enough partnership with the state government, adding that the group from intelligence gathering in the grassroots has information that they are eager to share with the governor that could help him fight cultism in the state.

While lamenting the involvement of youths in violent crimes, particularly rape, cultism and kidnapping and condemning these vices, he said that CONPA was committed to taming these through sustainable advocacy.

Comrade Ugboh admitted that the task was challenging and solicited the cooperation and support of the state government, individuals and organisations to enable CONPA to drive its passion for peace and violence – free society.

Furthermore, he urged the state government to encourage and honour youths promoting peace, saying that this could woo youths involved in crime and criminality and make them converted.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Honourable Ochor Christopher Ochor, has said that he was committed to supporting the group and ensuring that they succeed.

Ochor, who was represented by his Special Assistant on ICT, Mr Chidubem Omeni, commended CONPA for advocating peace in the society, and speaking out against violence and criminality among the youths, promising to support the group more in achieving set goals.

In the same vein, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Community Relations, Hon. Garvin Ugbome, said CONPA is prominent in Ndokwa nation and now spreading fast to all of Delta North senatorial district.

Continuing, he said that the state governor has done so much in the area of peace and security, saying that Delta deserves peace.

While calling on youths in the state to remain peaceful, shun cultism, hard drugs and other vices, he urged CONPA to purge itself of bad eggs, adding that the group must expose leaders involved in cultism, oil bunkering and diversion of the commonwealth of the people, particularly in the Ndokwa nation, describing them as enemies of peace and progress.

The SA maintained that peace was key to sustainable development of communities across the state, as unnecessary communal crisis had led to loss of lives and destruction of property, thereby becoming a hindrance to development.

Also speaking, the South South zonal Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, and Chairman of the body in the state, Comrade Kenneth Okorie, urged youths in the state to key into CONPA’s laudable project in order to engender a more peaceful and violence – free society.

The event featured a road walk by the Peace Ambassadors and the cutting of the 6th anniversary cake.
