Oruarivie-Abraka Youth Council Visits Oldest Man In Community, As Conference Begins Today

-Kigho Clocks 100 Days In Office, Lists Achievements

National President of Oruarivie-Abraka Youth Council, Efe Don Kigho, on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, led some members of his executive to the residence of the oldest man in the community, Pa Edward Ugwhumiakpor (Alias Ameh) on a visit.

Speaking during the visit, Kigho said that youths in the community decided to honour the oldest man in the community because his administration considers honouring elders as a necessity.

The youths presented food items and cash to the 103-year-old community leader, as they informed him of their three-day conference and sought his blessings.

Responding, Pa Ugwhumiakpor said that since he assumed the role of oldest man in the community, many good things have been attracted to the area.
Adding that this is the first time that Oruarive Abraka youths paid him a visit.

He prayed for the success of the programme and wished the executive a successful tenure, adding that their administration will advance the kingdom.
Meanwhile, Don Kigho during an exclusive chat with Oasis Magazine (OM), said he just clocked 100 days in office as National President of the youth body.

According to him, they were at Pa Ugwhumiakpor’s residence on a visit to officially pay homage to him, get his advice and directive, adding that they also visited the oldest woman in the community.

He continued: ”They are both over 100 years and from what we head, the woman is older. Apart from these visits, we also sent representatives to other women in all the Ruling Houses including urban to present gifts to them to mark my 100 days in office.”

On the three-day conference, he said the programme will address issues on security, health and the relationship with the university and ways to woo investors.

Speaking further, he said, on Saturday, we will pay a visit to our royal father to give him our reports on achievements so far, challenges and future plans going forward and also seek his prayers, blessings and orders on the way to go.

On achievements, he said his administration has restored peace to the community.

His words: ”Abraka was divided along cult and political party lines, but we have tackled these issues. We just had local government elections under my watch.

Ordinarily, it would have been bloody. But thank God for my executive; we put our feet on the ground. We are not saying it was a free and fair election. But, it has happened already and they are all our people.”

“Also, there was hardly light when we came in, but now we have at least 8 hours power supply daily based negotiations of my executive and BEDC management with the understanding of by-monthly upward review.”

Furthermore, he told assured Abraka youths to expect more and urged them to stay away from drugs.

He noted: ”Most of the vices that we inherited in office were drug-induced. We have had about 9 persons killed in accidents and the drivers were on drugs because their tongues were blue, a sign of Rephnol.

”People just dived into River Ethiope and died because they were on drugs. Criminals go for robbery and are reckless because of drug. But today the town is under control. I know many are aggrieved, because they are either using it or benefitting from the proceeds. So, I know that we are stepping on toes. We are not against anyone but it is about the future of Abraka.

”People want to give Abraka a name that is not ours. The place was becoming unsafe but today it is safe. Now we have a better relationship with the police and even the university, adding that the university management has asked them for list for employment.”
