No Automatic Ticket In 2023: Esiso Has Just Taken The Lead To Stabilize Delta PDP, Says Ijaw Group

Delta Ijaw 2023 Governorship Advocacy Group (DIGAG) has said that the recent statement accredited to the PDP, Chairman, Delta State, Olorogun Kingsley Esiso over the zoning argument “will engender stability to the Party.”

A statement signed by Amb. Augustine Okporu (JP), DG, DIGAG, added that “for Esiso to depart from his earlier position of zoning based on Senatorial District to be on the same page with the Governor, His Excellency, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa, means PDP will continue to thrive on the victory lane in Delta State.”

The statement continued: “We commend the State Party Chairman for saying that there’s no automatic ticket for any of the elective positions in the Party in 2023. Just as Governor Okowa has used his divine wisdom to put the needless argument of zoning to rest by saying that there is no gentleman agreement of zoning in the State, Esiso has also put the final nail on the coffin.”

“The clear statements of our Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa and the State PDP Chairman, Kingsley Esiso only presupposed that no individual person or ethnic group will have the exclusive rights to contest the office of the governor under the platform of PDP in the State. We therefore commend Governor Okowa for his timely intervention to save the Party from implosion.

“Now that the PDP umpire in the State has declared his neutrality in the contest and has assured Deltans of providing level playing field, we appeal to Okowa and Esiso to conduct the Party’s business in accordance with the PDP Constitution and the guidelines of the Party.

“Some top Party officials, especially among the current State Executive members are taken some clandestine means to conduct the Party’s business not in conformity with the existing constitution. The Party leadership and our Governor should not be tempted to follow those steps, while we’re approaching the electioneering processes,” the statement added.

According to the statement, “unconstitutional decisions of the Party of course, will beget series of litigations. If we must avert a repeat of events in our recent political developments in the Country then the decisions of the Party should be strictly in conformity with the existing constitution.”

DIGAG called on the Governor who the group said “publicly said he will not interfere with the electioneering processes” to “be bold enough not to interfere with any of the processes leading to the election of the Party candidates,” adding that “the Governor and the State Chairman should allow only the will of God to prevail.”
