Okowa Needs To Enforce Open Grazing Ban Now — Orhomonokpaye

..Faults CP’s Assurance Message

Lawyer and human rights activist, Barr Owin Orhomonokpaye on Monday, commended the Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa’s ban on open grazing, insisting the governor needs to enforce it now to keep Deltans safe from Fulani herdsmen.

“Governor Ifeanyi Okowa needs to enforce the ban on open grazing to legalize the resolution in south south states using local policing.”

Orhomunokpaye who was speaking on open grazing and the ban, expressed concern that despite the setting up of a security outfit christened “Operation Delta Hawk” by the state government, the outfit is yet to see the light of day.

“I must say that the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has not been proactive on the issue of Delta Hawk since he came up with the idea. I am very sure if he had kicked off the project with enough funding, Delta Hawk would have nipped some of these herdsmen activities in the bud especially some of the attack we have been experiencing in the northern part of the state.

“Delta State as it stands today is no longer safe because of the incessant killing and kidnapping mostly carried out by these herdsmen who hide under the guise of cattle rearing.”

The lawyer however said there was need for south south leaders to set up a special security outfit so as to keep their people safe from these marauding herdsmen.

Orhomunokpaye also faulted the assurance message by the Commissioner of Police ,CP Ari Muhammed Ali, that the ‘FULANI JIHADIST WARNING PUBLICATION should be ignored and that the message must have been pasted by miscreants with the aim of creating panic in the state.

“He cannot tell us to ignore such threat with what we are seeing and hearing everyday; we can only ignore when we know and see things in place. So he should stop assuring us without putting security measures in place.”

Orhomonokpaye added: “the Fulani threat is an eye opener and gradually they are beginning to hold us to ransom with their threat.

“The case of Fulani herdsmen invading our village killing our brothers and sisters is almost becoming a daily occurrence and he is telling us not to panic; we have no security data base. Our farms have been taken over by Fulani herdsmen, our women can no longer go to the farm, our villages are insecure, he should know the story is more than assurance without anything physical on the ground.”
