Southern Delta University VC Says The Right Best Graduating Student Was Announced, Denies Wrongdoing, Blames DVC For Errors

Vice Chancellor, Southern Delta University, Ozoro, Professor Jacob Oboreh, has said that, Akaine Frank is the best graduating student of the institution, just as he denied claims that Imonisume Obrozie Solomon topped the list of First Class students.

He said this when contacted by Oasis Magazine to clear the air on some allegations.

Sources from the institution had contacted Oasis Magazine, stating that the university played a foul play during its maiden convocation ceremony on Saturday, by announcing Frank instead of Obrozie, citing discrepancies in the convocation brochure.

In the said brochure, Frank was placed on the second spot on the list of best graduating students, while Obrozie topped the list with 4.85 CGPA. On another page, Frank was said to have gotten 4.99 CGPA.

A source had said: “Imonisume Solomon is the best graduating student since results were published in the University after Senate approval. Even students, staff and Management are aware of it. Everybody was surprised that in the list of First Class Graduating students, the first on the list is 4.87 which is Imonisume Obrozie Solomon while the second on the list is 4.85, Frank was announced the best graduating student.”

According to the source, “Imonisume Obrozie Solomon had been given the speech of the best graduating students to study awaiting the convocation day but surprisingly, when she returned the speech to the Deputy Vice Chancellor, she was told to forget about it that another person has been chosen as the best graduating student.

“Going to the Faculty, the said Akaine that was announced as the best graduating student was given GPA of 4.96 indicating he has two CGPAs that was not approved by Senate.”

“There is the urgent need for the attention of the state governor to be drawn to this development to prevail on the University Management to do the needful. This is important in order for this poor girl not to be led into doing anything stupid as a result of depression. Not after when she has struggled to merit the best graduating student in the University,” the source concluded.

While denying the allegations, Oboreh added that the DVC, Professor Arthur Efeoghene Essaghai, was to blame for the errors in the brochure.

His words: “That was a mistake to place that girl to be number one because if you see the brochure, how will you declare someone with 4.87 as the best graduating student? I don’t do things that are not straight forward. The person in charge of that brochure is the Deputy Vice Chancellor and he prepared it and sent it to me. I had to declare the right person. I can’t see the right things and declare something else. I have seen it from all the faculties. Frank is the best graduating student. I think the DVC was trying to give it to someone else. He will be queried. The girl also tried. What the DVC did is actionable and tomorrow, he will get a query for what he did. He should have read what he did. I cannot be chairman of everything.”

Meanwhile, earlier this reporter contacted the DVC, who in a phone conversation, said he was not aware of the matter.
