Stop Being Lawless, CSOs Tell Obaseki, Urge Edo People To Resist Forceful COVID-19 Vaccination
By Daniel Dafe
Edo Civil Society Organisations have condemned the ongoing forceful vaccination of Edo State residents, just as Governor Godwin Obaseki has directed that those not vaccinated should be denied access to government properties and large gatherings.
In a statement signed by Leftist Aliyu Umweni, Interim Public Relations Officer of the body, while calling on the Governor to stop being lawless, the groups wondered why a state governor will keep on violating the fundamental human rights of his people and flagrantly disobey an order from a court of competent jurisdiction.
According to the statement, “the governor should be informed that we will not fold our arms and watch our servant, that we gave mandates to represent us keep violating the fundamental human rights of Edo state citizens.”
They called on Edo people to rise up to resist Godwin Obaseki for his constant disobedience to the rule of law.

They continued: “A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt in Suit No. FHC/PH/FHR/266/2021 had ordered the state governor to maintain status quo, by not forcing the citizens to take compulsory vaccination.
“Edo state cannot become lawless due to the insistence of the governor to forcefully vaccinate the people. We shall resist him by all means constitutionally possible.”
Furthermore, they urged all Edo people to get ready for the massive mobilization and protests that will rock the state soonest, adding that “all affiliate organisations and study centres across the state are to wait for further instructions on mobilization.”
