Rivers State Govt Says Exposing Drinkable Water To Sun, Possible Cause Of Cancer
Cautions Supermarket Owners, Water Distributors
Rivers State Government has cautioned supermarket, kiosk and store owners to stop displaying their water under the sun to prevent chemical reactions that could cause cancer and other health related ailments when consumed.
Commissioner for Water Resources and Rural Development, Dr Tamunosisi Gogo Jaja, who stated this in his office during a meeting between the State’s Water Regulatory, Commission and Water Associations in the State, said exposure of water to sun rays causes chemical reactions that are injurious to human organs and directed the commission to enforce compliance.

Dr Tamunosisi Gogo Jaja further directed the Water Regulatory Commission to ensure that water distributors cover their products from sun light while distributing as exposure equally could also cause cancer.
Defaulters he said will face necessary sanctions.
