There’s No Peace In Oviri-Olomu, Your Thugs Attacked Us, Victims Tell Eweñede
Four out of the five families wherein oil was discovered in Oviri-Olomu Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, have insisted that there is no peace in the community as claimed by the President General, Chief John Ewenede.
The families said three victims from the five families who are laying claims to the oil were brutally attacked during a meeting at the community town hall by suspected thugs loyal to the President General during a meeting on Sunday, October 10.
The four families spoke at a press conference held in Udu Local Government Area in reaction to resolutions reached during a meeting at Oviri-Olomu Community on the 10th of October.
The families said their representatives were humiliated, manhandled and cowed by the suspected thugs.
Chief A.P. Edariese, a representative of the Edariese family said it is not true that there is peace in Oviri-Olomu Community.
He also said it is not true eight out of the nine families mentioned agreed that there was no crisis in the land, adding that the atmosphere was very tensed at a meeting held 10th of October, 2021.
At the meeting, he said, the atmosphere was very tensed because John Ewenede allegedly unleashed his thugs on anyone who had a contrary view to his own.
Edariese, one Shedrack Akanuota, Chief Ben Johnson Where and others were allegedly attacked and assaulted by suspected thugs loyal to Chief John Ewenede during the meeting.

“Ewenede ordered one Mr. Iyeta to treat the fuckup of the said Shedrack Akanuota. A show of force was the prevailing situation in the hall that day.
“On the other hand, one Awhotu Amrevuawhor who represented the Edariese Efedjamah family along with his younger brother, Omavuaye Amrevuawhor were rudely assaulted by Mr. David Akpevwe- for daring to respond to a question Ewenede directed to him that members of his family own the land.
“As a reprisal, Chief Ewenede ordered that he be taken out of the hall by thugs, David Akpe and Steven Urhobojevwe Ebrobota who is currently parading himself as the Youth Chairman of Oviri-Olomu Community.
He said Ben Johnson Ekere was also attacked by the thugs.
Edariese insisted that it is five families that own the land where the oil was discovered and not nine as claimed by Ewenede to mislead the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company, NPDC into trouble.
One of the victims, Shedrack Akanuota claimed he was attacked by the thugs on the orders of Chief John Ewenede.
“John Ewenede has made himself the Gaddafi of Oviri-Olomu Community. He has forgotten what he told me on phone on the 11th of October after the meeting on the 10th of October.
“He called me that he heard a message from Kpoko FM and asked why must I go for a press conference. I replied him that I have not gone to make any other press conference. Rather, that was the previous one we made. He categorically told me that I should know that he will personally fight me whether I like it or not. Are these words, words of peace?
“This same John Ewenede who told me that I am not privy to the MoU in any way. That he alone is the one that has access to the MoU. Are those words, words of peace? It’s Ewenede who ordered his thugs to give me a blow right there in the town hall by one Ogbevire Paul Iyeta. Is that a demonstration of peace?
“When I was going out of the hall, Ben Johnson told them that what they’re doing is discord. Because of that, one David Akpevwe- gave Ben Johnson a blow on the order of John Ewenede. Is that peace? Am asking so that Nigeria and the entire world may know how this man has made himself a tyrant in Oviri-Olomu Community.
“I am also calling on the Police and other security agencies to get him (Ewenede) arrested for peace to reign ”
Chief Ben Johnson Ekere also said there is no peace in Oviri-Olomu Community just as he claimed that he was also attacked allegedly by the suspected thugs.
He said it is terrible if one comes out to speak the truth in the community, stressing that “they will attack you.”
Chief Ekere promised not to stop speaking the truth.
He said he was attacked by the thugs because he went for the rescue of his cousin, Awhotu Amrecuawhor of the Edariese Efedjamah family and Shedrack Akanuota of Akanuota family respectively.
In his words, “When he was speaking, Ewenede ordered his thugs to take him out. I went to rescue him. In that process, David Akpevwe- and Udueni Wisdom, the thugs that belong to Ewenede attacked me. What I saw that day was terrible. So, I want to ask Ewenede who say there’s peace in Oviri-Olomu Community, is this peace? I was attacked.”
Awhotu Amrevuawhor of the Edariese Efedjamah on his part said there is no peace in the community, saying he was attacked by suspected thugs loyal to Chief John Ewenede.
“Even when I said it was five(5) families that owned the land where oil is discovered, John Ewenede did not agree to my submissions. In that process, they dragged me out.”
Mavuaye Ashe from the Ashe family who was at the press briefing also said there is no peace in the community. She said it is difficult for everyone to enjoy peace genuinely on the land.
Omavuaye Amrevuawhor who was at the meeting said he wasn’t attacked during the meeting but that there is no peace in Oviri-Olomu Community.
