By Onoriode Etatsemi
As the race for who takes over from Governor Okowa is gradually gathering momentum, Dr. Peter Mrakpor SAN and Olorogun Arthur Akpowowo, Commissioner for Urban Renewal in the state, have led hundreds of Christians to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
Dr Mrakpor told Christians from all denominations at the instance of the Christian Community Platform, during a gathering of Ethiope East people, tagged, “Ethiope East Praise Day”, that they could only enthrone good governance in the country, if they registered and got ready to vote during elections.
Mrakpor, who was represented at the venue of the prayer conference in the open field of the Eku Baptist Mission School, Eku, by Rev. Samson Bodjor, said that “it is a sin if Christians do not register and vote in the right leaders.”

The former Delta State Attorney-General who gave his message from Proverbs 29, verse 2, said “if the righteous man is in authority, the people rejoice, while on the contrary, if a wicked man is in power, the people suffer.”
He added that ”if those that are good are in power, life becomes sweet and better. Everyone enjoys good governance. Good Leadership is the key to better life. If there are good leadership, the followers too are equally good people.”
He revealed further that as prayers and praises were powerful in bring down the hands of God to uplift humanity, same it is with “your personal voter’s cards (PVC) which will empower you to vote in the right candidate,” adding that they should join the PDP for good governance.
Mrakpor said that people are in love with the wonders of God in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) which, he said, was made possible because of the selfless services and efforts of few quality leaders within the spate of 50 years in the area.
He explained to the mammoth crowd of believers that “those you give power and authority to rule over you should matter.”
Mrakpor explained further that “Politics is not dirty. It is the players that make it looks dirty. It is good for children of God to be actively involved in politics so that we can enthrone good governance at all levels. If you leave politics because it is dirty, who will be there for you? People that are not good will take over the planning for your welfare and future.”
On his part, Olorogun Akpowowo, convener of the prayer conference in Ethiope East, said that “it is mandatory on Christians to pray for good leadership in the country, if we must move forward as a people.”
He assured his people of Ethiope East, that come 2023, his party, the PDP, would take over the governance of the country at all levels, given the poor ratings of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC ) in the country.
He appealed to his people to register and get their PVCs so that “together would chase away bad government at the federal level.”
He told his people that gone were the days when votes did not count and that they should be rest assured that with the new INEC technology, their votes would count, just as he strongly appealed to them to join the PDP which, he claimed, was the best party in the country.
Highpoints of the event was songs ministrations in praises to God and prayers for the country, the state, Ethiope East Local Government Area, the state governor, Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa; the convener of the programme, Olorogun Akpowowo, and INEC, among others.
