DELSU SUG Moves To Reduce Keke, Okada Transport Fares In Abraka

The Student Union Government in Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, on Monday met with the leaders of the tricycle (keke) and motorcycle (okada) riders union in Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, over the high rate of transport fares charged by their members.

The meeting tool place at the Abraka-DELSU Liaison Office in the university community.

Students just like residents in the community are made to pay as much as N150 and N200 per drop without taking into consideration the distance.

The SUG leaders reminded representatives of the association of how the high cost of transportation has negatively affected students and pleaded with them to regulate the fare, to which they agreed to.

As part of security measures, the SUG body also reiterated the need for proper registration of bikes for identification purposes.

The association responded positively to the SUG’s request and committed to implementing them immediately.

Below are agreements reached-

1. Bike fare should not exceed more than #100 for distance within the urban coast of Abraka community within school hours 6 am to 7 pm for a drop.

Any defaulting bike man will face disciplinary actions.

2. A monitoring task force would be set up with Hotline to monitor the activities of Okada riders.

3. Town crier has been commissioned to announce across Abraka communities the regulation.

4. The bike men are to be properly registered and at the same get their union uniform apron with a code identification number to be accountable for any security threats and defaulting action.

5. All these are to be implemented on or before Feb 1, 2022.
