The Executive Chairman, Ethiope East Local Government Area in Delta State, Rt Hon (Pharm) Ofobrukueta Victor has directed the security agency attached to PRESCO (a private owned entity) operating in Ovre-Eku community of Delta State to immediately release the body of late Master Cyril Obruche who was gruesomely murdered by an unidentified trigger-happy law enforcement agency attached to the company on the 28th of March, 2022 while returning from the farm.

In a statement, the council boss said the women and youths of Ovre community were on a peaceful protest over the deliberate barricade of the only accessible link road adjourning the Eku-Ovre and its neighbouring villages by PRESCO company which adversely has effects on the economic activities of the people especially the farmers.

The Executive Chairman said when he learnt of the incidence, he quickly intervened by putting every effort to calm the protesters and factor out ways of recovering the body of the deceased taken away by PRESCO PLC management to an unknown destination.

According to him, they (Presco) dilly-dallied, keeping him and his entourage waiting for over 2 hours without a clear description of where the deceased was kept.

“All efforts of the Executive Chairman to recover the body of the deceased and meeting with the management of PRESCO PLC to finding a lasting solution to the lingering agitations of the people proved abortive.”

The Executive Chairman urged protesters to dampen their anger and go back to their homes, saying that he is taking up the matter to the appropriate authorities to ensure that justice prevails.

He also called on PRESCO PLC management to release the body of the deceased and remove the erected gate which happens to be the cause of the crisis within the next 24 hours.

“.. how would a sane man block the only accessible road linking this communities? My people were on a peaceful protest over the deliberate barricade of this road and you open fire on them, killing a young promising student of just 18-year old returning from farm who’s not even among the protesters. I demand to see his body now!! He queried. I’m giving you 24hours for you to produce his body or face the wrath of the law”, he remarked.

He advised the people of the community never to take laws into their hands as he promised to unravel and prosecute the killers.

He enjoined the people of Ethiope East to be security conscious, and report any suspicious movement to the appropriate authority.

He also advised them to shun any form of reprisal attack as government is on top of the situation.

Ofobrukueta used the opportunity to sympathize with the bereaved family, saying “only God can actually comfort them”.

He prayed that God give them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
