UK Sanctions: Liverpool Boss Questions Abramovich’s Source Of Wealth

The Liverpool manager has questioned the sources of wealth of billionaire club owners in the Premier League such as Roman Abramovich of Chelsea.

Chelsea’s Russian owner was recently sanctioned by the UK government.

And Klopp, a German tactician, accused football, and football supporters, of being careless to the origin of Abramovich’s wealth.

Klopp said it was important that serious questions are asked of club owners, specifically their sources of money, in the future.

Abramovich was accused of having a close relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin who recently ordered Russian forces to invade Ukraine.

He said: “I don’t think it is really fair to ask me. You are much longer in this country. Did you care, really? Did anyone really care when Roman Abramovich came to Chelsea?”

Adding: “Did anyone really care when Newcastle got taken over? Do supporters really care? It is a question.

“It is pretty obvious where the money is coming from. Everyone knew it, but we accepted it. That’s our fault. It is society’s fault, so we accepted it.

“Now we cannot accept it anymore and so we punish them, it is not Chelsea’s fault. Not at all.”
