Delta Monarch Urges FG To Inaugurate NDDC Board

The traditional ruler of Umiaghwa-Abraka kingdom in Delta State, His Royal Majesty, (Air Vice Marshall) Lucky Ochuko Ararile (rtd), Avwaeke 1, has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to inaugurate the Niger Delta Development Board (NDDC).

The monarch made this call during his 10th coronation anniversary, organised at the Umiaghwa Secondary School, along the Abraka-Eku Road in Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state.

He said the non inauguration of the NDDC board remained a vexatious and burning issue in the heart of the Niger Delta people, adding that the concept of interim administration which was currently used to run the NDDC was strange and not according to the act that formed the board.

According to him, the situation where an individual was positioned to execute a whopping N400billion all alone was abnormal, describing it as worrisome and mind boggling.

He said it was a dangerous trend that had become worrisome to the people of the Niger Delta region, just as he added that the inauguration of the NDDC Board could assuage the ill-feeling brewing up in the region and urged the federal government to urgently do the needful.

The monarch appealed to the state government to construct the Oria-Abraka Road, provide street lights, establish a general hospital and a secondary school at Umeghe-Abraka, among other things.

He disclosed that under his reign, there had been relative peace and security in the kingdom despite the security challenges facing the nation.

He added that over the years, his intervention had brought some improvement in electricity supply to the kingdom and some other adjoining communities, just as he added that the kingdom also embarked on human capital development projects by empowering some youths of the kingdom.

He urged government at all levels to fight against the menace of the “Yahoo Syndrome” which has become a serious distraction to the development of youths in the nation so that the youth could settle down to meaningful life.

The coronation anniversary was attended by top military officers, traditional rulers, government functionaries and was spiced up with traditional dance and wrestling competition.
