The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Dame Pauline Tallen, has announced that she will be vying for the Plateau South Senatorial seat in the 2023 general elections.
The minister will slug it out with Governor Simon Lalong, who is believed to be also interested in the senatorial seat. Lalong will serve out his two terms next year.
Plateau South Senatorial District covers six local government areas namely, Langtang North, Langtang South, Mikang, Qua’anpan, Shendam, and Wase.
The incumbent senator, Prof. Nora Dadu’ut, is said to have decided not to run for the position come 2023, paving the way for the minister to throw her hat into the ring.
Tallen’s entry into the race swells the number of President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet members who are eyeing different positions in 2023.
Tallen had previously served as a councillor, commissioner and deputy governor.
