DTHA PDP Primaries: Akpowowo Speaks On His Victory In Ethiope East

Immediate past Commissioner for Urban Renewal in Delta State, Olorogun (Barr.) Arthur Akpowowo, has said that
there was no victor or looser in the just concluded Delta State House of Assembly primaries in Ethiope East.

According to results announced, Akpowowo defeated Chief (Mrs.) Faith Majemite and Hon. Augustine Ogedegbe who came out 2nd and 3re respectively to clinch the ticket.

Speaking with journalists after the announcement of the result by the Commissioner for Economic Planning in the state, Hon. Barry Gbe, the DTHA PDP’ candidate in the area, urged the party to “come together and defeat APC and any other opposition party in the local government,” saying that “PDP has not won election since 2011 in Ethiope East.”

He continued: “So this time, we had a peaceful and acceptable primaries by all and we are going to come together and win the general elections.”

While thanking God, his fellow contestants and all the delegates for the peaceful conduct of the election, he said that when they had a meeting before the primaries, he told them that “nobody will lose,” quoting the words of Mandela that “you either win or learn.”

“So I want to believe that for me I have won today. I have learnt in the past and I know that my fellow contestants will learn and go forward. So, I give God the glory for this victory because it was a hard win victory for me,” he added.

Furthermore, he said: “As a statutory delegate myself, I feel pained that some people due to their error of judgement excluded me just as they excluded the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and so many other stakeholders including the National party chairman of the PDP. So, I have not been happy because i have been excluded.

“I had consulted widely amongst the 140 delegates and when the news came that it is just 35 that will vote, I was a little bit jittery because I know the efforts that I had put into this campaign.”

Asked what his message to the people of Ethiope East is, he said: “They should expect the best from me; having been in the party and the Executive arm of government.”
