A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Kassim Afegbua has berated the presidential candidate of his party, Atiku Abubakar for picking Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as his running mate.

Recall that Atiku had on Thursday officially announced Governor Okowa as his running mate for the 2023 elections.

Naija News reports that Atiku officially unveiled Okowa as his running mate at the party’s National Secretariat after the Delta governor was screened and cleared by a Screening Committee.

Speaking on Arise TV on Thursday, Afegbua said Okowa is a weaker candidate to Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State who was also vying for the vice-presidential ticket.

He described the Delta State governor as a betrayer for being among Southern Governors that moved for a Southern presidency only to work for Atiku.

Afegbua stated that he would resign from the PDP and back the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He said: “It gladdens my heart that Atiku has picked a weaker candidate as his running mate. It provides a golden opportunity for the APC, which has a Southern candidate and Peter Obi.”

Adding: “Okowa was among the governors who made the Southern declaration that the region should produce the next President but he went behind to work against it and betrayed the South because he was looking at becoming Vice president.

“Atiku has used the Vice President slot to compensate him.”
