Internet Fraudster, Lekan Bibire Usman Jailed

The EFCC has secured the conviction of an internet fraudster, Lekan Bibire Usman (a. k. a Christopher Kermond).

He was sentenced to twelve months imprisonment by Federal High Court sitting in Lagos and presided by Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke.

The conviction followed the plea of guilt to a count charge of fraudulent impersonation made against him by the EFCC.

The convict who impersonated a certain Christopher Karmond with an intent to gain advantage for himself, contravened Section 22(2)(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention etc) Act, 2015 and punishable under the same Act.

The judge however ordered Usman to pay the sum of N1 million in lieu of the jail term.

The charge reads: “That you, LEKAN BIBIRE USMAN (a.k.a Christopher Kermond) on or about 4th day of April, 2022 in Lagos within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court fraudulently impersonated one ‘Christopher Kermond’ by holding yourself out as such on your Google Account with intent to gain advantage for yourself and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 22(2)(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention etc) Act, 2015.”
