President, Urhobo Peculiar Advocates, UPA, Comrade Ochuko Okagbare, has called out the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for not sending personal birthday wishes to former Governor of the state, Chief James Ibori.

Ibori clocked 64 on Thursday.

Comrade Okagbare who is also a Legislative Aide to the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, said that the Speaker “withheld his birthday wishes to Chief James Ibori in demonstration of his anger for his position against his candidature.”

Recall that Oborevwori is in court with Olorogun David Edevbie over who is the authentic candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the 2023 governorship contest in the state.

Oborevwori emerged winner during the party’s guber primary while Edevbie, believed to be Ibori’s anointed aspirant came second.

Dissatisfied with the outcome, Edevbie approached the court where he got victory in an Abuja Federal High Court that disqualified the Speaker over discrepancies in his academic certificates.

Oborevwori has since taken the matter to an Appeal Court and hopes to overturn the judgment against him.

Meanwhile, Okagbare described Hon. Oborevwori’s failure to send a birthday message to Ibori “as an act of disrespect.”

When contacted, Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Dennis Otu, said “the former respected Governor, HE, Chief James Onanefe Ibori was congratulated yesterday by the Delta State House of Assembly and was personally signed by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori.”

Checks by Oasis Magazine showed that no birthday congratulatory messages to Ibori was seen on the Speaker’s verified Facebook page, even though a personal congratulatory message sent to Senator Ovie Omo-Agege on Wednesday was posted n the said Facebook page.

Also, a birthday message from Oborevwori to Ibori for 2021 was seen, as critics responding to Okagbare’s post wonder why he did not.do same he did last year where he described Ibori as an “iconic leader.”

Some Facebook users have defended the Speaker, saying it may have been an oversight.

Adding that the Delta State House of Assembly where he presides did a birthday congratulatory advert on Pointer.
