Ghana has qualified for the CHAN tournament for the first time since 2014 as Nigeria miss out on a second straight tournament

The Black Galaxies had defeated the Super Eagles B 2-0 at the Cape Coast Stadium in the first leg of the WAFU section of the qualifiers.

The Nigerians started the game on the front foot against a resolute Ghanaian team and threw all they could at the Black Galaxies. The first half however ended on a goalless stalemate with pressure piling on the Nigerians.

In the second half, the Super Eagles kept pushing for the needed impetus and had one in the 76th minute through Zulkifilu Muhammed. The game saw Nigeria upping the tempo and had their reward in the 90th minute through NPFL top scorer, Chijioke Akuneto to draw Nigeria level.

At 2-2, the game was tied and it meant they’d go into penalty shootouts.

Ghana won on penalties 3-2 and have qualified for the CHAN tournament, with Nigeria missing out for the second straight time.

Recall that Togo stopped Nigeria from the tournament the last time and the Super Eagles last featured in the tournament meant for home-based players in 2018.
