An activist in Delta State, Comr.(Amb) Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen has called on the Nigerian Police Force in the state to do a thorough investigation into the young men nabbed by the police force in Ekpan who the police said disguise as hunters and vigilante members in order to carry out crime.
Activist Agberen who said that the six arrested are operatives of the Federal Hunters Group, a local security outfit in the state, called on the police to investigate the mater thoroughly.
Recall that in a statement issued on Saturday, 15th December, 2022, and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Police Command, Asaba, DSP Bright Edafe, said that “the Nigeria Police operatives attached to Ekpan Police Station arrested six (6) suspects who disguise as vigilante/hunters to rob and kidnap unsuspecting victims.
The police said that every successful operarion, they run to hibernate in Ovwian Aladja Police Division.
Agberen while calling on the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Ari Muhammed Ali to launch a proper investigation on the six(6) operatives of the federal hunters group who were alleged to be suspected armed robbers/kidnappers, said the 6 arrested have been working with the Nigeria Police Force, Ovwian Division and Burutu Area Command both in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.
According to the activist, there may be two sides to the story that is taking a twist on the social media space and the Ekpan Police Divisional Station that has led to the victimization of the said local security operatives.
Comr. Agberen stated that the said local federal hunters operatives have been of great assistance to the Nigeria Police Force in combating crimes such as kidnapping, armed robbery and cultism in the area which the people in Udu as well as the Police Division and Area Command can testify of their efforts to reducing crime in the area.
He added that the Nigeria Police Force through the Delta State Police Command boss, should launch a special investigation on the alleged suspects, to ensure that they are not wrongly accused.
For the sake of ensuring justice, equity and fairness; as there may be more to what the eyes can see, he called on the police to be thorough on the issue and unbiased.
Continuing, he disclosed that he called the OC Operations of the hunters who claimed that the hunters had gone to Ekpan to carry out an assignment that very day.
Adding that when the incident occurred, the police never deemed it necessary to call or to ask him about their very assignment but were quick to detain and wrongly arrest his men working under him.
