The spokesperson for the Nigerian Police Force, CSP, Olumyiwa Adejobi, has made it known that blasphemy is an offence recognised by Nigerian law, noting that it isn’t subject to the whims of members of the public for enforcement.
Speaking further, CSP made it known that enforcement of law is by constituted authorities through a laid down procedures in the criminal justice system for possible punishment and not by jungle justice.

CSP Olumyiwa Adejobi made this disclosure in a tweet he made on his twitter handle, while reacting to the recent Killing of a butcher man in Sokoto, for allegedly making a blasphemous statement against Prophet Mohammed.
Speaking further, he noted that the Sokoto police command has been on the case, thereby urging the members of the Public to wait for their report and their action.
In addition, the police spokesperson made it clear that there is a need to call on clerics to carry out enlightenment on this particular issue.
It should be recalled that a certain butcher man, was reportedly killed in Sokoto State yesterday, after he was accused of making some blasphemous statement against Prophet Mohammed. The killing of this butcher man is coming just a year after one Deborah Samuel, a student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, was killed in the same Sokoto State, for making some blasphemous statement against Prophet Mohammed.
