Some residents and traders of Warri whose compounds and business premises were located close to the evacuated canals have alleged that officials of government in charge of the evacuation exercise were engaged in sharp practices of demanding monies in determination of where to empty the dugouts.

The amount demanded according to those that made the allegation on condition of anonymity ranges from 30 to 50 thousand naira.

However an official of the evacuation exercise , Comrade Fetus Ukeje ( aka June 12 ) when asked to react to the allegation, vehemently denied it as he described it as a cheap blackmail.

He however disclosed that the evacuation team has recommended to the relevant authorities that the dugouts from the canals should immediately be cleared to avoid them finding their way back to the canals more so with the persistent rainfall .

He also disclosed that he has recommended that pave concrete should be constructed by both sides of the canals to avoid erosion .

Meanwhile, it was a pitiable sight to see victims including traders and residents of the last Saturday’s flood taking advantage of the following Sunday sunshine to sun their water soaked properties in Sam – Warri Essi Street, Okere Road, Warri / Sapele Road among other areas.
