Court Remands 9 Maduku Children, In-laws Over False Allegations Against Agofure

Federal High Court sitting in Asaba, headquarters of Delta state has remanded late Chief Abel Maduku’s children and in-laws at the Ogwash-Ukwu prisons by His Lordship, Hon. Justice F. A. Olubanjo following false allegations against Chief Godwin O. Agofure.

The defendants who were remanded in case with suit No. FHC/ASB/IIOC/23 between Inspector General of Police referred to as Complainant and Nine others namely; John Abel Maduku ‘M’, Philip Maduku ‘M’, Ogheneyore Tete ‘F’, Prince Maduku ‘M’, Helen Tete ‘F’, Blessing John ‘F’, Stanley Okiemute ‘M’, Stella Dele ‘F’ and Resident Victor ‘M’ referred to as Defendants.

The Defendants who were remanded on different count charges ranging from Cybercrime, defamation of character and others, had caused serious injury on a hard earned reputation of Olorogun Godwin O. Agofure and also promoting public hatred and ill-will on his person through video, whatsapp messages posted on facebook and social media without substantial evidence.

In the said charges, Olorogun Godwin O. Agofure was alleged by the defendants of commiting several crimes, which was circulated in different social media platforms, thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 24(1) (b) and punishable under Section 24 of the Cyber-Crime Act, 2015.

The Defendants were remanded on the 28th of September, 2023, following the death of their cousin, late Monday George Asovunure, who on the instructions of one of the defendants, Mr. Philip Maduku, directed that the deceased be buried at the fence of the country home of Olorogun Godwin O. Agofure.

The defendants who later took to streets protest, alleged Olorogun Godwin O. Agofure of several allegations that were posted on Facebook and other social media after the deceased was exhumed and relocated elsewhere for burial through the help of the Agbarho police.

The case has been adjourned to on the 24th of October, 2023 for next hearing.
