Gov. Oborevwori Wins At Supreme Court

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has dismissed an appeal challenging Sheriff Oborevwori’s election as Governor of Delta State.

The appeal was filed by Ovie Omo-Agege of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who lost to Oborevwori in the March 2023 gubernatorial election.

In a unanimous ruling, a five-judge panel said Omo-Agege failed to prove his allegations of electoral malpractice and non-compliance with regulations. Oborevwori of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was declared winner of the poll by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) last year.

Dissatisfied with the results, Omo-Agege and other candidates like Ken Pela of the Labour Party and Kenneth Gbagi of the Social Democratic Party had lodged petitions with the Election Petitions Tribunal. However, the tribunal dismissed all appeals challenging Oborevwori’s victory.

The decision was later upheld by the Court of Appeal.

Today’s ruling by the Supreme Court, Nigeria’s highest judicial authority, removes the last legal obstacle and conclusively affirms Oborevwori’s mandate as Governor of Delta State.

The court confirmed that due process was followed and the will of the people should stand.
