Ogun Govt. Cautions Against Violation Of Right Of Way

The Ogun State government will no longer condone erection of illegal structures within the 70 meter right of way along the Abeokuta-Sagamu and Sagamu-Lagos Expressways.

Commissioner of Physical Planning and Urban Development, TPl Olatunji Odunlami, gave the warning during an enforcement exercise along the Expressway.

Represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Physical Planning Compliance and Enforcement, Mr. Babatunde Olugbewesa, the Commissioner decried the impunity with which fences, buildings and factories were being erected on both sides of the Expressways without recourse to right of way.

“There is a fencing regulation for the Expressway which demands the use of see-through design, in accordance to the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit regulations. Even developers who have the proper documentation but do not follow this fencing regulation have committed an offence”, he said

The enforcement exercise included, removal of perimeter fences of some properties which had no development permit in Aseese, along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and at Orile Imo, along Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway, just as developers of an estate gate within the 70 meter right of way at Areke village, were advised to relocate the structure, to comply with the OGPDPA regulation.

Also, along the spine of the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway, the fences of four structures were removed for not complying with regulations, though two of the structures had planning permits, while two blocks of shops which had earlier been sanctioned were also removed.

A company on Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway and another at Obafemi Owode Local Government were sealed for not obtaining their planning and development permits before construction.
