Since the inception of the present administration in Delta State led by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the good people of Ika South Local Government Area can rightly be said to have been blessed with a young, intelligent, vibrant, hardworking and resourceful politician, in the person of Comrade Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior.

His appointment and subsequent inauguration into the state executive council last year was greeted with tumultuous applause by all. It was described as a befitting gift to the people of Ika South.

His brief stint as Honourable Commissioner for Power and Energy was eventful and impactful, and was unanimously agreed to have ushered in great hope for the people especially the youths and women who formed the bulk of the population of the local government area.

Born in August, 1987 into the Ehiwarior family of Ekuku-Agbor, Agbor, Delta State, Jerry, as he is fondly called by friends and admirers, attended and later graduated from the University of Benin, Benin-City, Edo State, where he bagged a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering and later Masters Degree in Engineering Electronics/Telecommunications.

A certified member, Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, COREN), member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and Fellow of the Institute of Policy Management Development, the young enterprising politician has in the past years, since venturing into politics, shown capacity in the discharge of responsibilities, and has been able to prove his worth as an emerging leader within the Nigerian political space.

While at the University of Benin, Engr. Ehiwarior was reputed to have engaged in student unionism where he became a famous student union leader, culminating in his becoming Secretary of National Association of Ika Students (NAIS) UNIBEN chapter and later National President, NAIS.

As a student, he also involved himself in partisan politics, becoming a staunch member of People’s Democratic Party, PDP, and was renowned for his grassroot mobilizing ability, making him a strong factor in the electoral victories recorded by PDP in Ika South since he became a member of the party.

He was first appointed Special Assistant on Students Affairs to former governor of the state, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa. He later served as Senior Special Assistant on Students Affairs to the Delta State Governor from 2019, till the end of Okowa led administration in May, 2023.

Recognizing his potential as a good manager of human and material resources, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, appointed him Commissioner for Power and Energy, last August. As commissioner, he was hailed to be among the best performing political office holders in the current dispensation.

Due to his sterling performance within a few months as commissioner, the ebullient and resourceful young man was called upon by leaders and stakeholders of the PDP, and unanimously endorsed as the party’s flag bearer in the forthcoming July 13 Local Government Council election.

The emergence of Jerry Ehiwarior into the Ika South Council Chairmanship race, without doubt, has brought peace and hope into the system. He is seen as an epitome of unity, humility and generousity. He is wholeheartedly accepted by his people, and this could be attributed to his simple life style, love for his people and commitment to their growth and development.

Therefore, the good people of Ika South are in for better days because a new dawn is here. With Jerry Ehiwarior, Ika South will be better and greater.

All hands should be on deck to elect a man who God has prepared to impact positively and greatly on his people as the next executive chairman of Ika South Local Government Council come July 13 this year.
