DTSG To Engage Students On Dangers Of Drug Abuse, Other Social Vices

The Delta State Government is to engage students on the dangers of drug abuse,
cultism, cyber bullying and other social vices.

This was made known by the Executive Assistant to Governor Oborevwori on Student Affairs, Comrade Okoh Ezekiel Oghenetega in a media interaction with newsmen in Asaba at the weekend.

He emphasized that the program was aimed at educating students about the dangers of social vices in a bid to foster a safer and more responsible community.

Comrade Oghenetega disclosed that the first phase of the program was scheduled to take place at Delta State University, Agbor on October 8, 2024 and that it will be graced by Governor Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, top government functionaries and other distinguished resource persons who will lead discussions on the dangers of drug abuse and other social vices.

The EA to Governor Oborevwori on Student Affairs also discussed that the program will feature a keynote address from Guest Speaker, Engr. Hilary Owamah, who according to him, is expected to provide insights into the societal implications of social vices and the importance of making informed life choices.

Oghenetega further hinted that the Commissioner of Higher Education, Delta State, Nyerhovwo Tunukari, MD DESOPADEC, Chief Festus Ochonogor, V.C Unidelsu, Dame Professor Stella C Chiemeke among others will be at the program.

“The Glory of God Drama Team will also perform, using theatrical art to illustrate the consequences of engaging in harmful behaviors and a representative from the Nigeria Drug and Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA),” he added.

Oghenetega further emphasized the importance of the program as he stated that “We are committed to equipping our youth with the knowledge and tools they need to resist social vices.”

Also the Academic Doctor reiterated that the program is designed not only to educate but also to empower students to make positive choices for their future.

“The Delta State Government recognizes the urgent need to address the rising trends of social vices that affect the youth and the community at large. By engaging students in meaningful discussions and activities, the initiative aims to promote awareness and inspire a culture of responsibility and integrity among the younger generation.”

He therefore urged all students and the university community to attend the program as he assured that the program will be both informative and impactful.

“The Delta State Government remains dedicated to creating a safer environment for all citizens through proactive measures and educational outreach,” he stated.
