Bill To Repeal Act Establishing Delta State Waste Management Laws Scales First Reading

A Bill for a law to repeal the Delta State Waste Management Board Law of 2008 sponsored by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. (Olorogun) Arthur Akpowowo Esq, as lead sponsor and 18 other lawmakers as co-sponsors has passed first reading.

While presenting the bill on Tuesday, Akpowowo, extensively spoke on the importance of the bill, which he said is for effective management of the board and its activities for a better and cleaner environment.

“The Bill is set to enact the Establishment of the Delta State Waste Management Board, and to maintain a system of effective waste collection, management and disposal in Delta State and to also manage and control the activities of PSP operators. The bill is timely and set to reposition the board for effective management and delivery of mandate,” the Deputy Speaker further said.

The Deputy Speaker was seconded by the member representing Ughelli North 1, Hon. Matthew Onojighofia Omonade Esq.

The motion for 1st reading was moved by the Majority Leader and was unanimously supported through voice vote as put through by the Speaker.

The second reading of the Bill is scheduled for Tuesday, 28th January, 2025.

The house adjourned plenary, to Tuesday, 14th January, 2025.
