FUPRE Matriculates 2115 New Students

…To Launch Centre For Open And Distance Learning, Commence College Of Petroleum Management And Policy Studies

Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FUPRE), Effurun, Delta State, on Wednesday matriculated a total of 2, 115 new students for the 2024/2025 academic year.

Vice-Chancellor, Engr. (Prof.) Akpofure Rim-Rukeh, disclosed this during his address at the ceremony.

According to him, giving the 1,798 males and 317 females, all passed through the rigorous screening process conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Adding: “This diverse group of students is now part of our growing academic community, and I am confident you will contribute to the continued success and prestige of this university.”

He urged the new students to begin their academic journey with purpose and dedication, saying that “the road ahead will offer both opportunities and challenges, and time management will be key.”

He added: “Stay disciplined, prioritize your studies, and remain focused on your goals. Success is a continuous journey—take responsibility for your academic path, set clear goals, and surround yourself with positive influences. Use social media wisely for personal and academic growth, and always remember to put God first, trusting in His guidance throughout your journey.”

He also noted that “achieving academic excellence is a journey that demands sustained effort, determination, and a commitment to continuous improvement.”

In his words, “As you begin this new phase of your life, I urge you to embrace the guiding principle of our university motto: “Excellence and Relevance.” Strive for excellence in all that you do, holding yourself to the highest standards while ensuring that your work remains relevant to the ever-changing demands of the world. By upholding these values, you will not only shape your future but also make a lasting impact on society.”

“University life is about more than just academics—it’s an opportunity for personal and professional growth. Participating in extra-curricular activities, sports, and professional groups helps develop valuable skills and build meaningful connections. These experiences promote personal growth, teach time management, and support both physical and mental well-being. Embrace them for a fulfilling and well-rounded journey,” he said.

Furthermore, he the VC said the university was established with the mission “to provide world-class education, training, research, consultancy, and extension services for the petroleum and allied sectors, our university stands at the forefront of developing top-skilled engineers, scientists and technopreneurs – professionals whose mission is to shape the future of the energy sector.”

He continued: “FUPRE currently comprises four dynamic Colleges namely: College of Science, College of Engineering & Technology, College of Maritime and Offshore Studies, and the newly established College of Computing that just admitted its first batch of students in this 2024/2025 academic session, offering degree programs in Software Engineering, Data Science, Cybersecurity, and Information Technology.

“We are also thrilled to announce the upcoming College of Petroleum Management and Policy Studies, which will further strengthen FUPRE’s academic offerings. In addition, we are preparing to launch the FUPRE Centre for Open and Distance Learning, designed to provide flexible online programs and broaden access to quality education on a global scale.”

Speaking further, he said: “FUPRE continues to excel in research and innovation, as demonstrated by our students’ remarkable achievement on 23rd September at the 2024 Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) competition. With only two participants representing the university in New Orleans, USA, they secured 3rd place globally, making FUPRE the second-highest ranked African institution in the competition’s history.”
