Izu Ibusa: Obuzor Should Respect The Dictates Of The White Paper

The Ibusa community has tasted monarchical system of government as well as republican or the typical stateless nature of the Igbo. Gerontocracy is also not strange to the people of Ibusa as the political system by which the oldest man in the community becomes the ruler has also been with the people.

The introduction of the Obuzor institution became one of the most controversial and turbulent period in the modern history of the Igbuzo town.

Igbuzo is strange to monarchical system of government, rather the Igbuzo system of government was perfected in the manner that the Diokpa and Obuzor have to share certain kingly responsibilities. According to the government White Paper,the Obuzor was not granted the power to call for Izu Ibusa (Ibusa Parliament ), it is the duty of senior Diopka of Ibusa to convene and preside over IZU Ibusa once in every Quarter.Obuzor should respect the dictates of the government white paper or is he operating another White Paper that is unknown to the entire Igbuzo people?

According to the White Paper ,the quorum for the Izu Igbuzo shall be the majority of diokpas ogbes and at least ten members from each ogbe including the War and Honourary Chiefs . Also, according to Onu Diokpa Ijeh (most Senior Diokpa of Igbuzo) He alleged the Obuzor of Igbuzo is undermining some of the legal powers of the senior Diokpa of Igbuzo and is assuming too much power for himself. The Obuzor should respect the Government White Paper which is the grand norm that established the Obuzor institution. Why call for IZU IGBUZO today.
