Rights Activist, Ukuanovwe, Bemoans Arrest Of Oborevwori’s Aide, Atom

Niger Delta Rights activist, foremost Nigerian indigenous language advocate and 2023 Ethiope federal House of Representatives candidate, Prince Ukuanovwe Godstime Oj has condemned the arrest of Hon. John Enamuotor, Special Assistant (SA) to the Governor on Security.

In a statement made available to Oasis Magazine, he added that “the arrest of Hon. John Enamuotor, popularly known as Atom has sparked widespread outrage and concern across the state.”

According to him, “Hon. Enamuotor was reportedly arrested yesterday in Abraka in a manner reminiscent of a military raid, handcuffed and publicly paraded over allegations of assault.”

He continued: “While we do not seek to obstruct justice or question the authority of law enforcement agencies to carry out their duties, the method of Hon. Enamuotor’s arrest raises serious questions about professionalism, due process, and respect for public office.

“It is disheartening that a man who has served diligently as a community leader and who currently holds a strategic position as Special Assistant to the Governor on Security was not afforded the basic courtesy of an invitation to clarify whatever allegations were made against him.”

He noted that “arresting him in such a commando-like fashion, placing him in chains, and allowing images of his handcuffed hands to circulate virally is nothing short of a public humiliation—an act that is both excessive and condemnable.”

He said further: “The Hon. Enamuotor we know has been at the forefront of advocacy against drug abuse, cultism, and armed robbery. His work in improving community security and engaging the youth has been laudable. That such a figure is now subjected to this form of treatment raises red flags and compels us to consider whether this is not just a case of “evil fighting back”—an attempt by elements threatened by his crusade against crime to exploit the system and discredit his person.”

Continuing, he called on the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Delta, to take a holistic and impartial view of this matter.

“It is crucial that the police force remains a neutral institution and is not used as a tool by non-state actors to settle personal scores or to shield illegal activities under the guise of law enforcement.

“Justice must be served, but it must also be seen to be fair and respectful of human dignity and public service,” he said.

“We demand a thorough investigation into this incident and call for the immediate review of the circumstances surrounding Hon. Enamuotor’s arrest.

“The people of Delta State deserve a security architecture built on fairness, respect, and accountability—not one tainted by showmanship and vendetta,” he concluded.
