Suspected Herdsmen Abduct Man Close To Asaba, Demand N50M Ransom

A man identified as Azubuike Bright has reportedly been kidnapped by suspected herdsmen in Itogwe Quarters, Ibusa, near Asaba in Delta State.

The incident occurred on Friday night when the victim stepped out of his home to purchase food.

According to reports, Azubuike had gone out to buy fufu before going to bed. Tragically, while returning home, he was intercepted and taken by the abductors.

The kidnappers have since contacted the victim’s family, demanding a ransom of fifty million naira (N50 million) for his release.

Human rights activist, Harrison Gwamnishu disclosed the development in a phone interview with a correspondent in Warri.

He confirmed that the abductors have made contact twice, insisting on the ransom payment.

Gwamnishu also shared a video on his Facebook page detailing how the incident unfolded, reiterating that the victim had just purchased his meal when he was kidnapped.

Expressing concern over the growing insecurity in the area, Gwamnishu called on indigenes of Ibusa residing abroad and in other parts of Nigeria to support the community in setting up a local security network.

He emphasized that funding such initiatives would significantly enhance the protection of lives and property in the region.

“We must not rely solely on the government. Our people in the diaspora need to come together and fund a community-driven security structure. This will go a long way in safeguarding our people,” he urged.

Reacting , Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, acknowledged receiving a message regarding the incident. He stated via telephone that confirmation was still pending and promised to provide an update once more information becomes available.

The alarming rate of kidnappings and rising insecurity in parts of Delta State has become a major concern for residents. Many are now advocating for increased community involvement and improved law enforcement efforts to combat the threat posed by criminal elements, including suspected herdsmen operating in the region.

As the family of Azubuike Bright anxiously awaits his safe return, pressure is mounting on authorities and local stakeholders to take decisive action to restore peace and security in Ibusa and neighboring communities.
