A’Ibom Sports Commissioner Dissolves Management Teams Of State Football Clubs
Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey has announced the immediate dissolution of the management teams of all four state-funded football clubs following the conclusion of the 2024/25 Nigeria Football League season,
The four football clubs owned and funded by the Akwa Ibom State government are; Akwa United Football Club, Dakkada Football Club, Ibom Angels Football Club and Ibom Youth Football Club.
Elder Bassey announced the dissolution of the Management teams during a meeting with the representatives of the four clubs in Uyo and directed that the chairmen and secretaries of the four clubs should submit their handover notes to the ministry in two weeks time.
Elder Bassey informed that the move to dissolve the management teams of the Clubs is part of broader efforts to reposition sports in the state for greater success in-line with Governor Umo Eno’s Arise Agenda.
Elder Bassey informed that a new management set-up for all the four teams will be constituted soonest to begin preparations for the upcoming football season.
The Sports Commissioner expressed sentiment of gratitude to the out-going officials for their contributions and services to the state and wished them well in their future endeavours.
In their separate reactions, the Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Football Association Mr Samuel Umoh, observed that the just concluded football season was not favourable to all the state teams and thanked the Honourable Commissioner for taking the necessary steps to reposition the teams for better outings in the coming seasons.
Speaking on behalf of Akwa United, Dakkada, Ibom Angels and Ibom Youth Football Clubs Elder Omon Bassey, Coach Aniedi Dickson, Coach Edwin Okon and Coach Lawrence Iquaibom commended the Honourable Commissioner for the opportunity given to the officials of the different clubs to serve and promised their continued support and commitment to football and sports development in the State.
