Egbo Addresses Agbarho Kidnapping Fears, Pledges Governor's Swift Intervention

In a direct response to escalating community fears and recent protests by women over alleged child abductions, the Executive Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Council, Olorogun (Barr) Jaro Movudu Egbo Ksc, visited Agbarho Kingdom over the weekend.

The Chairman’s visit aimed to conduct a firsthand investigation and reassure residents of robust governmental action.

Immediate Engagement with Community Leaders

Upon arrival, Chairman Egbo convened a critical stakeholders’ meeting at the Palace of the Osuivie of Agbarho kingdom. This session served as an initial fact-finding mission regarding the distressing reports of children allegedly being kidnapped within Agbarho communities.

Representing the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Dr Sheriff Oborevwori, Egbo conveyed the Governor’s deep concern and commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents, particularly children.

He assured the distressed women and the traditional leadership of Agbarho Kingdom that both the State and Local Governments were poised to intervene decisively.

“I am here on the mandate of the Governor, who is also very interested in this case,” Chairman Egbo stated, emphasizing the high priority placed on resolving the issue.

Call for Cooperation and Upcoming Security Summit

Recognizing the crucial role of community intelligence, Chairman Egbo urged those present to provide any concrete information that could assist security agencies in their investigations and in formulating a lasting solution to the abduction menace. He announced a follow-up, broader security meeting scheduled for Tuesday, June 10, 2025, to be held at his office in the Ughelli North Council Secretariat, following the public holiday.

“By Tuesday next week, after the public holiday, a security meeting will be held in my office at the Ughelli North Council Secretariat. All those with valuable information should come forward with it to find a lasting solution to the issues raised. Anyone found to be involved in the kidnapping of children will be dealt with no matter how highly placed such individuals may be.”

This upcoming meeting is expected to bring together community leaders, security agency representatives, and other relevant stakeholders to collaboratively develop a comprehensive action plan aimed at preventing future incidents and bringing perpetrators to justice.

The Chairman’s proactive engagement and the swift response from the state government underscore a concerted effort to address the community’s anxieties. The visit and the planned security summit are seen as pivotal steps towards restoring a sense of security in Agbarho.
