Music Colossus, Idolor Passes At 70

The music world has lost one of its brightest lights as Professor Godwin Emurobome Idolor, a distinguished scholar and pioneer in African Musicology, Music Education, Composition, and Conducting, passed away in the early hours of Thursday, June 12, 2025 after a brief illness.

Born on December 22, 1955, Prof. Idolor was instrumental in shaping the study and practice of music at Delta State University, Abraka, where he served as a founding member of the Department of Music.

Over the years, his scholarly contributions, leadership, and passion for African musical traditions left an indelible mark on generations of students, colleagues, and the broader academic community.

A colossus in the field of music, Prof. Idolor’s legacy transcends the classroom, influencing music scholarship and education in Nigeria and beyond. He was very passionate about the development of Okpe language.

He will be deeply missed by family, friends, colleagues, students, and the global music community.
