On Friday, 13th June, 2025 , Professor Hilary Ijeoma Owamah and family rendered a special thanksgiving to God for his new appointment as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of the Delta State University, Abraka at Saint Michael’s Anglican Church, Owa-Alero, Agbor

The occasion was massively graced by the creme de creme of DELSU and Delta State.

The Vice Chancellor of DELSU, Professor Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba, in his address praised Professor Hilary Ijeoma Owamah for his intelligence and hard work. Professor Asagba recounted that his first encounter with Professor Owamah was during the latter’s employment interview, where he was immediately struck by Owamah’s remarkable intellectual acumen.

He noted that even at that early stage, Professor Owamah demonstrated not only intelligence, but a clear vision for how he intended to contribute to the growth and development of the University.

The Vice Chancellor further remarked that Professor Owamah has remained consistently focused and committed, a dedication that has seen him rise through the ranks to become a professor at a relatively young age.

Professor Asagba also described the celebrant as an intelligent and hardworking young academic who, as Director of Academic Planning, played a pivotal role in DELSU’s attainment of 100% NUC accreditation success.

The immediate past Governor of Delta State, Senator (Dr) Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa in his speech commended the celebrant for being the first professor in Owa kingdom to be appointed Deputy Vice Chancellor of DELSU.

Senator Okowa also thanked those whom God used to elevate Professor Owamah to his present status, especially the current Vice Chancellor.

Senator Okowa also advised Owamah to continue to be a good ambassador of the kingdom.

Bishop of Ika Diocese of the Anglican Church, Rt. Reverend G. Ekpenisi in his sermon titled “To Whom Much is Given, Much is Required”, appreciated God for uplifting Professor Owamah to the exalted position.

He reminded the celebrant that the office comes with great expectations and responsibilities.

Rt. Reverend Ekpenisi urged the celebrant not to disappoint those who entrusted him with the appointment.

He also encouraged Professor Owamah to stay connected to his roots by using his position to serve his people.

Concluding his remarks, the Bishop admonished the celebrant to remain godly, honest and diligent.

The celebrant, Professor Hilary Owamah in his testimony, narrated his journey from humble beginnings to the esteemed position God has elevated him to today.

He recounted how his academic journey was fraught with challenges, particularly those stemming from financial constraints.

He expressed deep humility at how God transformed the course of his life, leading him to his current position as Deputy Vice Chancellor.

Professor Hilary Owamah appreciated everyone whom God has used to elevate him to his present level in life.

He and his family later led the congregation in appreciation of his appointment.
