Tinubu Will Face The Consequences If He Picks A Christian VP – Hakeem Baba-Ahmed Warns

Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, a prominent northern elder and spokesperson of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), has issued a strong warning over speculations that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu may consider picking a Christian vice president in the future.

Speaking during a media chat on current political developments, Baba-Ahmed said any move by Tinubu to drop Vice President Kashim Shettima, a Muslim from Borno State, and replace him with a Christian could come at a serious political cost.

According to him, the 2023 election that brought Tinubu and Shettima to power was based on a Muslim-Muslim ticket, and any attempt to alter that balance could destabilize the political arrangement that helped the APC win.

“If Tinubu makes such a move, he will have to live with the consequences. Nigerians voted for a team, not just an individual. Dropping Shettima because of political pressure or religious sentiment is risky,” Baba-Ahmed said.

He also stated that the North will not tolerate being used as a political bargaining chip, especially when it comes to sensitive religious matters.

“People think religion can be used to manipulate everything. But the North has woken up. We are watching closely. The political calculation must be balanced, not based on fear or pressure,” he added.

His comments have sparked reactions across the country, with many political observers saying it reflects the growing tensions ahead of the 2027 elections. Some analysts believe Tinubu may be under pressure to present a more “religiously inclusive” ticket next time, especially after the backlash over the Muslim-Muslim pairing.
