FG Sets Minimum Admission Age For Tertiary Institutions At 16, Cut-Off Marks At 150, 100
The Federal Government has officially set 16 years as the minimum age requirement for admission into Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, made this known at the opening session of 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions organized by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Abuja.
Dr. Alausa emphasized that the age limit is mandatory and non-negotiable, warning that any institution found violating the directive or engaging in admission fraud will face strict legal sanctions.
He stressed government’s resolve to uphold integrity and standards in the education system.

Stakeholders also approved the following national minimum cut-off marks for the 2025 admission exercise:
• Universities – 150
• Colleges of Nursing – 140
• Polytechnics, Colleges of Agriculture, and Colleges of Education – 100
The policy is aimed at ensuring compliance with academic standards and enhancing the quality of education in the country.
