Afiesere Community Protests Sales Of Hard Drugs, Commences Arrests of Dealers, Youths

LEADERSHIP of Afiesere community in Ughelli North local government area of Delta State on Thursday condemned the use of illicit drugs and substance by youths in the Area..

The community had commenced the arrest of youths and dealers involved in the sales and buying of the hard drugs within the community without compromise of any sort if one is caught in the act.

The President General of Afiesere community,, Mr. Luke Umukoro during a sensitization walk against drug abuse stated that henceforth any youth caught with illicit drugs and those selling illicit drugs would be apprehended and handed over to the appropriate authorities.

In a powerful display of unity, the people of Afiesere community came together in their hundreds to condemn in its entirety the drug abuse and its devastating effects on their youth.

Led by the President General Mr. Luke Umukoro, the community members marched through the major streets, raising awareness about the dangers of illicit substances and the importance of seeking help.

The sensitization walk according to the President General, was aimed to educate residents about the risks associated with drug abuse and the negative effect on the community youth.

He stated that the community will hand over any youth caught with hard drugs and the seller to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA stressing that they are aware of the sensitization walk

Others who spoke at the community protest, the Spokesman of the community, Mr. Otubo Etaya, the community youth chairman, Mr. Erubure Ejotubu warned those selling illicit drugs to desist from it or would face the consequences.

They expressed concern that if the trend of drug abuse continues, many young people might succumb to a life of crime and addiction, as they however revealed that some youths are already receiving treatment in various healing homes in the area due to the use of hard drugs .

They said with the machine to text those involved that there will be no escape route defaulters, stating that they are taking proactive steps to prevent substance abuse and foster a brighter future for their youths .
