Again, Osawota Appeals To FG To Improve Itakpe/Ujevwu Railway Service

Warri based legal luminary, Chief Andi Kayoma Osawota has reteraited his call for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to improve on the Ujevwu/ Itakpe Railway Service

The legal icon reteraited his call in an exclusive media chat with our correspondent at his Effurun Uvwie Local Government Area resident last weekend.

Osawota who is an author of several books, explained that the reteraitation of the call was based on the daily increase of patronage of the Itakpe/Ujevwu Railway Service by passengers.

The chieftain of All Progressive Congress ( APC) in Delta State recalled that the said railway service was initially meant for conveying of iron ore from Itakpe to the defunct Delta Steel Company ( DSC ) in Ovwian/ Aladja and billets from DSC Ovwian/ Aladja to Ajaukuta Steel Company.

He however noted that the Itakpe/Ujevwu Railway Service is now passengers based and that passengers now heavily depend on it.

To this end, he appealed for the provision of new locomotives to enable passengers travel in comfort as he bitterly noted that the present locomotives are obsolete and moribund.

Osawota also appealed for the construction of an additional rail for the transportation to be on going and coming bases .

He further appealed to President Tinubu for the extension of the railway service from Itakpe to Abuja.

“If this is done, he (President Tinubu) will make himself more popular than he is now and this will be advantageous to the people of the south south in terms of transportation to Abuja.”

Osawota who bears the exalted title of Ogba (strong man) of Orogun Kingdom in Ughelli North Local Government Area also recalled that President Tinubu made a promise to this effect during his electoral campaign.

He therefore urged President Tinubu to keep to his promise.
