Federal Poly Orogun On Path Of Progress As NBTE Grants Full Accreditation, Approves Additional Streams — Rector

The Federal Polytechnic, Orogun, Delta State, has recorded a major milestone as the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) granted full accreditation to three of its pioneer programmes and approved additional streams for nine others, signalling a new phase of growth and the institution’s steady march toward academic excellence.

The accreditation, conveyed through official letters signed by the Director, Polytechnic and Allied Programmes Department, Dr. (Mrs.) Fatima Kabir Umar, on behalf of the Executive Secretary of NBTE, Prof. Idris M. Bugaje, followed the Digital Accreditation Verification Visitations carried out by the Board from 16th to 18th September, 2025.

According to the letter, ND Accountancy, ND Business Administration and Management, and ND Statistics were granted full accreditation status for a period of five years with effect from the 2025/2026 academic session.

In a related development, NBTE also approved additional streams for nine, out of the twelve National Diploma (ND) programmes, thereby increasing the Polytechnic’s carrying capacity significantly. The affected programmes include Accountancy, Business Administration and Management, Marketing, Mass Communication, Civil Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, and Science Laboratory Technology. Each of these programmes now has two streams, effectively doubling their student intake.

Announcing the cheering news at the 17th Management Meeting of the institution held on Thursday, October 16, 2025, the Rector, Prof. Duke Okoro, described the development as “a remarkable achievement that signals the dawn of a new era for the institution.” He expressed profound gratitude to the NBTE for the confidence reposed in the young institution and commended the management, staff, and students for their collective commitment to excellence.
“We are truly excited by this news,” Prof. Okoro said. “The full accreditation of our pioneer programmes, coupled with the approval of additional streams in the nine programmes, clearly shows that the NBTE has recognized our steady commitment to providing quality technical education. This milestone further strengthens our resolve to position Federal Polytechnic Orogun as one of Nigeria’s foremost institutions of technological innovation and research.”

The Rector further noted that the accreditation underscores the institution’s compliance with national academic standards, adding that the Polytechnic’s focus remains on producing skilled, employable graduates who can drive Nigeria’s industrial growth.

“This achievement is not just a victory for the Polytechnic, but for the entire Orogun community and Delta State at large,” he added. “We are building an institution that the nation can be proud of, one that combines sound academic delivery with industry-driven innovation.”

As part of the Polytechnic’s ambitious expansion drive, Prof. Okoro revealed that preparations have reached an advanced stage to present twelve new academic programmes to the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for resource verification ahead of the 2025/2026 academic session. The forthcoming additions, which cut across diverse disciplines such as engineering, technology, management, agriculture, and the creative arts, include emerging fields in mechatronics, renewable energy, computer engineering, film and television, music, and multimedia studies, alongside specialized areas in crime management, public administration, procurement, and cooperative economics.

According to the Rector, the move reflects the institution’s deliberate strategy to diversify its academic portfolio and align training with the evolving manpower demands of Nigeria’s economy. “We are expanding strategically,” Prof. Okoro stated. “Our goal is to diversify our academic offerings to meet the emerging manpower needs of the nation. These new programmes, once approved, will further enhance our contribution to national development and innovation.”

Also speaking, the Registrar of the Polytechnic, Mrs. Christine Aluyi, commended the dedication of academic and non-academic staff who worked tirelessly to meet NBTE’s rigorous standards. “This accreditation validates the hard work and resilience of our staff,” Mrs. Aluyi noted. “It is a collective triumph that reflects our institutional culture of excellence, discipline, and teamwork.”

In the same vein, the Polytechnic Librarian, Prof. Edwin I. Achugbue, emphasized the critical role of learning resources and infrastructure in achieving the accreditation success. “The NBTE team was particularly impressed with the quality of our library resources and digital learning facilities,” Prof. Achugbue stated. “This confirms that our institution is ready to support advanced teaching, learning, and research activities across all accredited programmes.”

The Rector reaffirmed management’s readiness to sustain and exceed the standards set by NBTE, assuring that preparations for accreditation of other nine programmes in 2026 would begin well ahead of time. “We won’t rest on our oars,” Prof. Okoro said confidently. “Our vision is to become a model Polytechnic that sets benchmarks for others to follow. With this accreditation and the expanded carrying capacities, Federal Polytechnic Orogun is firmly on the path of progress.”

The NBTE’s approval marks a significant leap in the Polytechnic’s growth trajectory since its establishment, further solidifying its position as one of Nigeria’s most promising emerging institutions of higher learning.
